Aberystwyth
has become my home,
my muse and my model. None of these photos have been cropped, they are all
carefully "framed" within the viewfinder - photography is a medium that I
feel is much cheated. If you would like to make use of the photos that are
available here, please do! (If you choose to use them for purposes other
than observation, a credit would be nice though!)
Over many months, friends have asked me if it would be possible for them to gain access to some of my photographs of Aberystwyth at a resolution that would be suitable for desktop wallpapers and other reasonably high-definition uses. I have therefore decided to present these files in an open-access format by way of a quirky "doff" of thanks to my dear friends and family who, over the last twelve months and more, have much bolstered my faith in love, friendship and mutual support. No names here; you guys know who you are! My love to you all!
Here are some photos for you! (More will be added as I have time, so do check back!)

Matthew
Bennet Davies (1974 - ). Matt (Matty to many of his closest friends) has
essentially been based in Aberystwyth for all of his life. After a less
than smooth educational career he found his feet in the world of music at the
age of sixteen and this has been the mainstay of his life ever since.
Professional playing credits (on double bass and bass guitar) include a
dozen summer seasons at Aberystwyth Arts Centre, and countless orchestral,
theatre, film, session, and live performance engagements. The musical theme is
continued in Matt's "day job" as a member of staff at
Cerdd Ystwyth Music, one of the
country's most respected music shops, where his love for, and knowledge of,
classical music is exercised on a daily basis. After a change in personal
circumstances he has recently, and happily, found himself with more time to
rediscover one of his childhood interests, photography.

A
note at the bottom! The
title of this site, and of my own domain name is "fwyalchen" .
Mwyalchen
is one of the ways the Common Blackbird (Turdus merula) is named in the Welsh
language and Fwyalchen is one of its linguistic mutations. My choosing of this title is down to many things. Wherever
I have been there have always been blackbirds around and about, surrounding my
childhood home, always audible whenever I stayed at another place for a
significant amount of time and , in their always seeming to turn up pertinently
(or impertinently) at times of either grief or joy. My maternal
Grandfather was a fine composer of music who once wrote variations upon one of
the Welsh traditional tunes that has been given the title "Y Fwyalchen"
- I have not yet visited my maternal Grandparents' grave without there being a
blackbird within ten yards of it! I'm well aware that all this is
coincidence. Indeed, I know! Though I'm not willing to throw the baby out
with the bathwater quite yet!
